Humber Zero’s partners, VPI Immingham, Phillips 66 Ltd hosted an exclusive behind the scenes event to give Bondholders an insight into the pioneering project which aims to decarbonise critical industry in the Humber region.

The multi-billion-pound project aims to remove up to eight million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being emitted to the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas by 2030, through an innovative carbon capture and storage process. New technology will be installed to capture carbon from the power generation at the VPI combined heat and power (CHP) plant and industrial processes at Phillips 66’s Humber Oil Refinery, future proofing industry and safeguarding thousands of high-value jobs in the region and beyond.

Attendees at the fully-booked event heard from Humber Zero representatives followed by a bus tour of the VPI Immingham CHP plant in a unique opportunity to find out more about how the electricity you use is generated and how the project will contribute to national efforts to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Jonathan Briggs, Project Director, Humber Zero shared an insight into the pioneering project Humber Zero which aims to decarbonise critical industry in the Humber region, including how it will contribute to national efforts to achieve net zero by 2050.

Guests heard from a series of young people who have built careers across the Humber Zero partnership on their journey into STEM.

After the presentations concluded, guests were taken on an exclusive bus tour of the VPI Immingham site, hosted by David Theakstone, Project Development Engineer at VPI Immingham. Attendees enjoyed the chance to gain a behind-the-scenes look at the project and ask questions to the experts directly.
