Behind the Scenes at The Deep: Bondholders Explore the Heart of a Humber Icon

Bondholders were recently given exclusive access to one of the region’s most recognisable attractions and most important conservation charities, as part of a unique Industry Insight experience at The Deep.

From the moment the morning began, attendees were taken far beyond the public areas of the building and into the heart of its work. The visit offered a rare opportunity to explore the full breadth of activity that sits behind the scenes, from animal care and research through to infrastructure, operations and global conservation initiatives.

Exploring The Deep Behind the Scenes

The experience began with an introduction to the mission of The Deep and the scale of its impact across education, conservation and international collaboration. Delegates were then guided through areas that are normally closed to visitors, gaining an understanding of how every part of the organisation supports the animals, the habitats and the people who visit.

Highlights included:

• A rooftop tour overlooking the Humber, offering a striking view of the building’s architecture and its place at the edge of the estuary.
• Access to the quarantine zone, where new arrivals are cared for and assessed before joining the main exhibits.
• Insight into the life support systems that maintain the aquarium’s environments and keep thousands of species safe and healthy.
• Opportunities to meet members of the team and hear first hand how The Deep’s work reaches far beyond the tanks and galleries.

In reflecting on the morning, Olly Burdett, Content and Design Executive at Future Humber, said: “This event gave our Bondholders an honest and up close look at what makes The Deep such an asset to Humber.
