Deborah McAndrew’s adaptation of Oliver Twist is now playing on Hull Truck Theatre’s Stage 1 until 4 January. Directed by Mark Babych and with original folk tunes and music by John Biddle, this festive re-telling of the classic Dickens’ novel is not to be missed!

Audiences are invited to join young Oliver Twist on the adventure of a lifetime as he escapes from the workhouse to go to London and start a new life. After falling in with the wrong crowd and sinking into the grimy criminal underworld, Oliver is presented with an opportunity to change his fate… but will this be his chance to finally find a loving family and a place to call home?

Mark Babych, Artistic Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said:

“We’re delighted to now be playing to audiences this wonderful classic family production. We love Christmas time at Hull Truck Theatre, the building is alive with warmth, fun and festive spirit. We hope audiences enjoy the wonder of live theatre together.”

The critically acclaimed production is a must-see and the perfect alternative to pantomime over the holidays, magically captivating audiences of all ages. Recommended age 7+. Access performances scheduled throughout the run.

Meanwhile in the Godber Studio next door, family audiences with younger children are invited to an adventure under the sea in The Little Mermaid. Written and Directed by Tom Saunders, the show explores themes of friendship, courage and confidence, following the exploits of Coral, a friendly, fun and inquisitive mermaid.

Tom Saunders, Associate Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said:

“Rehearsals have got off to a great start, and it’s been wonderful seeing the cast bring the characters to life. Week one’s rehearsal room has been one of laughing, creative experimentation and discovery so I am so grateful to the whole team for letting this be the case with their great energy. I think this show is going to be really special and full of Christmas magic.”

Featuring songs, puppets and audience interaction, this heartwarming tale is a modern-day twist on the classic story. Specially designed for 3 – 6-year-olds and their families, these shows will all have a laid-back attitude to noise and movement in the theatre space, making it the ideal introduction to a festive theatre experience for Early Years. The Little Mermaid will be on stage from 11 December – 4 January, with morning and afternoon performances. A special BSL performance is also scheduled for 20 December, 1.15pm.
