A North Lindsey College student who has faced her own battle with cancer has helped raise £1,200 for two charities that have provided vital support to her and her family throughout her treatment.

Lily-Mai Proctor, a student at North Lindsey College, and her mum, Lisa Proctor, organised a series of fundraising activities to raise money for local charity Hope House in Scunthorpe and the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Service (WISHH) in Hull.

Lily was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2025 and underwent chemotherapy treatment before being given the all-clear in November. Sadly, she received a second diagnosis in March 2026. Despite the challenges she has faced, Lily and her family were determined to give something back to the organisations that have supported them during their journey.

Lisa organised a fundraising event in Lily’s name for Hope House and the Teenage and Young Adults Cancer Trust (WISHH). She also organised a charity fishing match held at Northmoor Fisheries in Crowle in May 2026. The event was supported by local businesses and the community, with an impressive 84 raffle prizes donated. Lily-Mai and Lisa Proctor have raised an impressive £1,200 for local charities.

Reflecting on the motivation behind the fundraising, Lisa said:

"Before Lily’s second diagnosis, I wanted to find a way to give something back to the charities that have supported us as a family. The Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Trust has given Lily opportunities, including trips to Flamingo Land and the Royal Albert Hall, where she met the band Wolf Alice, took part in a music workshop and even had the chance to go on stage. Hope House has also been a huge support they are a small charity that deliver meals on a Friday to families who have a family member undergoing treatment."

Hope House supports families across North Lincolnshire who are affected by cancer, while the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Trust provides experiences, activities and support for young people undergoing treatment.

Joanne Sowerby, Founder of Hope House in Scunthorpe said, " We are absolutely overwhelmed with this very kind donation, and so grateful for their support at such a difficult time for their family.”

This money will make a real difference to enable us to continue to support families affected by cancer in our area.

Throughout her treatment, Lily has continued to show remarkable determination and resilience. During her time at North Lindsey College, she successfully completed both a Level 3 Business qualification and a Level 3 Music Production and Performance course. Even while undergoing chemotherapy, she remained committed to her studies, continuing her learning from home and attending college whenever possible.

Her courage, positivity and dedication have inspired both staff and fellow students. In recognition of her achievements, Lily received two awards at North Lindsey College’s Student Celebration Awards in June 2026: the Inspirational Achievement Award and the coveted Principal’s Choice Award, selected by Principal Daniel Fenwick.

Lily’s story is one of resilience, determination and community spirit, demonstrating how even during the most difficult circumstances, it is possible to make a positive difference to the lives of others.
