J Marr International Colleague Cycles 212 Miles to Support Sailors’ Children’s Society

22 September 2025

Hull, UK – September 2025 – J Marr International is proud to announce that colleague Helen Simpson has successfully completed the Bridge-to-Bridge Cycle Challenge, riding more than 212 miles in just 48 hours from the Severn Bridge in the Southwest to the Humber Bridge in East Yorkshire to raise funds for the Sailors’ Children’s Society (SCS).

The route tested riders with challenging landscapes, shifting winds, heavy rain and back-to-back 100-mile days. Early on, a stray dog caused a minor fall for one participant, and later downpours turned roads into rivers. Despite the conditions, morale stayed high thanks to messages and videos shared enroute by families supported by SCS, reminding riders of the impact their fundraising would have.

A Cause Close to Home

For more than 200 years, the Sailors’ Children’s Society has provided essential help to children of seafarers, whether from the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, fishing fleets or offshore sectors, offering school uniforms, warm winter clothing, hardship grants, and emotional and practical support in times of crisis.

Helen’s motivation was deeply personal.

“My father was in the Merchant Navy and passed away when I was young,” Helen said. “I realised that some aspects of the charity’s work would have helped us as a family at the time. Combining my love of cycling with a cause so close to my heart felt like the perfect challenge.”
