Celebrate Joyful, Unique and Brand-New Work This Summer with Hull Truck Theatre
4 June 2025
Hull Truck Theatre have a variety of entertainment and events available in June, from the start of their Grow Festival to their Family Open Day, the theatre will be a hub of the city with a welcoming programme for all ages and interests. With Music and Comedy nights to Drama and Film, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this Summer.

Every June, the City of Hull joins the rest of the UK in coming alive with vibrant colours, powerful messages, and a shared sense of unity as the nation celebrates Pride Month. Honouring the LGBTQIA+ community, its history, and the ongoing fight for equality, Hull Truck Theatre will present a variety of funny yet poignant stories, Award winning comedians and FABULOUS Cabaret entertainment.
Don’t miss Buff (Tuesday 3 June), a solo-performed play that tackles body image pressures, social media jealousy, and one gay man’s journey to self-acceptance head on, whilst navigating the toxic universal world of online dating. Another piece for Drama fans is Steel (Thursday 5 June). Presented by Theatre By The Lake, this heartfelt story set on the wet West Cumbrian coast asks what it means to be a man, in this play about first loves, forging identities and the wild, wild hearts of teenage boys.
Ken Powell, Reviewer for Northern Arts Review, said:
“The story was special for me, living with my family in neighbouring Whitehaven, which has its own similar story to that of its traditional rival. I also grew up in a midlands coal mining town during the 80s just as Thatcher’s government brought that industry to a halt. Mattinson’s story in Steel speaks to these towns too and I suspect its echoes would be deeply felt in any British town and city built on the back of the Industrial Revolution.”
Bringing some of the funniest jokes to stage, three comedians will share LGBTQIA+ experiences, wisdom and a raucous celebration of queerness this month. First up, Elf Lyons: Horses (Thursday 5 June) will perform mesmerising blend of clowning, mime, comedy, and theatre. Bi Curious George: Queer Planet (Friday 6 June) aims to shatter the heteronormative binaries through which we view the natural world; a love letter to nature, combining stand-up comedy, parody songs and drag in the form of a nature documentary. As heard daily on The Hits Radio Breakfast Show, James Barr (Saturday 7 June) will perform in Sorry I Hurt Your Son (Said My Ex to My Mum), finding comedy in the chaos. From navigating online abuse from Piers Morgan's fans to cancelling a Flamingo adoption at his local zoo, get excited for an hour of trailblazing stand-up.
What better way to close our Pride celebration of shows then by celebrating the most iconic Drag moments in Music, Theatre, Movies and popular culture. Join international, multi award winning Cabaret super-star Velma Celli (Friday 13 June) for A Brief History of Drag.
Luke Dankoff, Producer / Programmer at Hull Truck Theatre, said:
