When choosing a new place to live, there is so much to consider. Whether you’re moving for work, or to find a better lifestyle, or to be closer to loved ones, you will need to think about where in the region you want to buy or rent a home for you and your family.

The Humber region has a lot to offer in terms of property and it’s true that you can get more bang for your buck in this area. The range of properties that are available in the variety of environments – city, coast, or countryside – is outstanding, but importantly, the money you will need to lay out to lay down roots in this part of the world makes relocating to the Humber worth thinking about

If you don’t know a lot about the Humber then our brochure Your Move provides a fantastic insight into the area including all about property, education, entertainment, sport, and lifestyle.

In the brochure, there is more information about what to expect from your new home. Here is a taster of what you will learn about property in the region.

1 – Property prices are much lower than average

While the average UK property price is almost £290,000, here in the Humber, none of the average property prices in any of our four regions – Hull, East Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire- get anywhere near this.

Average property prices in each of the four local authority areas in the Humber are lower than the UK average. The UK average is currently 289 thousand. In Hull, the average is 147 thousand, in East Yorkshire it is 202 thousand, in North Lincolnshire it is 190 thousand, and in North East Lincolnshire it is 146 thousand

There are real bargains to be had in all of the local authority areas and also some which have prices which will knock your socks off, yet they’re all priced lower than an equivalent in most other places in the UK.

Yes, this 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom house with a heated outdoor pool in Halsham, East Yorkshire isn’t exactly priced close to the UK national average or to the average for East Yorkshire, but what would this cost if it was elsewhere in the UK? If it was in the M25 area, for example? It’s available to nosy at on RightMove if you’re interested!

The Old Rectory in Halsham in East Yorkshire is on Right Move for offers over £800,000. It has six bedrooms and a pool

Elsewhere, there are perfectly good homes available for nowhere near this price. For the average price in North East Lincolnshire, you can get this 3 bedroomed semi-detached with garden and off-road parking within walking distance of Grimsby town centre. This one is also on RightMove if you want to take a look.

A semi detached on Rupert Road in Grimsby is for sale for £150,000 with Jackson, Green & Preston

Within an area, there is also a variety in the types of property available and what you will pay. In Hull, for example, a terraced house will set you back an average of £129k, while the average detached home is around £307k. For context, the average detached house in Nottingham is nearer £380k, while in Leeds it’s a whopping £463k.

Typical house prices in Hull - for a terraced house it's around £129,000. For a semi-detached it is £189,000 and a detached averages £308,000

If you want to rent rather than buy, there’s good news there too. In all areas of the Humber, the average rental rate is also much lower than the national average.

If you’re looking at moving to the Humber, it really is worth looking at the variety of options available for property. You may be pleasantly surprised.

2 – there is a great choice in where to live

The Humber region covers four local authorities – the city of Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North-East Lincolnshire. Each has their own unique combination of city, coast and countryside. Each area is easy to get to from elsewhere in the region – there are lots of people who work in Hull but live in North Lincolnshire, and many that live in Hull but work over the border in East Yorkshire, for example.

Wherever you live in the region, you don’t have to travel very far to get a fix of city life, or to pop to the coast for a walk and fish and chips. If it’s a country cottage, a brand-new family home by the sea, or a city centre apartment that’s on your wishlist, you will find something to suit you in the Humber.

Are you tempted to consider moving here to get more home for your money and have some left over to play with? Many have done it and haven’t looked back. We’d love to hear your relocation stories.
