Active Humber’s commitment to making physical activity accessible is reflected in their deep-rooted support for community-led projects like the The Peel Project CIC Peel Street Project. Following the summer 2024 riots, this initiative has worked tirelessly to promote inclusion, combat racism, and bring communities together through shared activities. Active Humber’s support ensures that movement is not just about fitness but about fostering connections, resilience, and a sense of belonging. By working directly with residents, they are creating a tangible impact where it matters most, within communities and in the lives of real people.
Celebrating outstanding community achievements
Supporting recovery and rehabilitation is a key pillar of Active Humber’s work, and their partnership with P.A.U.L FOR BRAIN RECOVERY is proof of that commitment. The 2024 10K Charity Run, which raised over £28,000, is just one example of how they champion initiatives that change lives. Their involvement ensures that individuals affected by acquired brain injuries have access to vital services, helping them rebuild their confidence and well-being. Every story of recovery and perseverance showcases the Humber’s remarkable ability to support and uplift those in need.
Maximising local partnerships and resources
Active Humber doesn’t just respond to challenges they anticipate them and adapt. Through their long-standing work with Hull Churches Home From Hospital Service, they have helped individuals regain independence after illness by funding therapy and fitness sessions that extend beyond hospital stays. From chair-based exercises to Tai Chi, these activities empower people to rebuild their strength in a supportive environment. During the pandemic, Active Humber quickly pivoted to provide digital resources, ensuring people could remain active from home. Their resourcefulness continues to shape innovative solutions that keep communities moving.
Breaking down barriers for audiences to physical activity
By rethinking how young people engage with physical activity, Active Humber is revolutionising participation through the Girls Carousel initiative. This programme has created welcoming, supportive spaces for year 9 and 10 girls who may have previously lacked confidence or opportunities to be active. The impact has been immediate, schools like St Lawrence have now embedded well-being walks into their curriculum after seeing first-hand the difference this approach makes. By listening to young people and co-designing activities that work for them, Active Humber is ensuring that the next generation embraces movement in a way that is fun, engaging, and sustainable.
