Since the company was founded in 1856, Hull has been its headquarters, initially for the whole business, and since 1997 when the company organised into Global Business Units, the global headquarters of its Advanced Wound Management division.

Hull is also where Smith & Nephew maintains a world class manufacturing facility dedicated to wound management, which accounts for approximately sixty per cent of the sales of that division.
