Rural broadband provider Quickline Communications delivered festive cheer and goodwill to more than a dozen charities and community groups across Lincolnshire and Yorkshire as part of their Season of Giving campaign.

The initiative saw the East-Yorkshire based business offer communities the opportunity to apply for support to help with activities planned for Christmas.

In total around £6,000 was handed out to successful applicants enabling them to pay for a wide range of items from Christmas lights and gifts to turkey dinners with all the trimmings, mince pies and mulled wine, all centred on community activities.

Kayleigh Panton, a resident of Folkingham in Lincolnshire, thought it would be an ideal opportunity to share the love of reading and applied for funding to buy books for every child in the village.

She said: “I’ve received some brilliant feedback from the community. The children loved receiving their books and I’m thankful to Quickline whose support meant we could give children a gift they can open time and time again.”

In Willingham by Stow, Lincolnshire, funds were provided to cover the cost of new Christmas lights for the community display as well as sponsorship of a tree at their Christmas Tree Festival.

And in Keelby, also in Lincolnshire, the primary school received a bundle of technology equipment to raffle off at the annual Christmas Fair.

Meanwhile in North Yorkshire, a Christmas party was held for senior citizens in Chop Gate, a small village in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and in Carleton-In-Craven, south of Skipton, a contribution towards community Christmas lights saw the whole village lit up for all to enjoy.

As well as funding, members of the Quickline team gave their time to help at events including Christmas fairs in Belton and Burton-Upon-Stather in North Lincolnshire and a mulled wine and mince pie afternoon in Cawood, North Yorkshire.

June Smith, a member of Cawood Women’s and organiser of the mulled wone and mince pie afternoon for residents, said: “We are so thankful for the support. It makes a real difference to our small community. Our get-togethers are really important and help to keep everyone’s spirits up.”

Others who benefited from the Season of Giving initiative included patients at Lindsey Lodge Hospice in North Lincolnshire and senior citizens in East Halton, North Lincolnshire.

Julie Holmes, Social Values Manager at Quickline, said: “We were excited to be able to work with so many different communities across rural Yorkshire and Lincolnshire to support their activities over the festive period.

“Our Season of Giving campaign was an ideal opportunity for us to build relationships with people living in some more of the areas where we are delivering our broadband and work with the communities to help make their celebrations better than ever.”
