In a decision record published by the council today, a total of up to £187,000 has been awarded by Hull City Council from the government’s LUF towards the £374,000 project.

The church will use the funds to re-fit the former banking hall and vault of the King Edward Street building, as well as restoring the building’s Edwardian 1902 façade and repairs to the currently leaking roof.

The ground floor former banking hall and basement former banking vault will then be turned into a community café with accessible toilets. Meeting rooms will also be re-introduced on the first floor.

Full planning permission was approved back in June for the change of the space to allow for mixed use including community facilities, café, meeting rooms and event space.

Approved Listed Buildings Consent also permits the installation of ground floor frontage, rear fire escape door, replacement of existing slate roof tiles, replacement of timber single glazing windows to front elevation, as well as internal alterations including the demolition of walls in basement and ground floors, and replacement of existing staircase.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis said: “Jubilee Church is a fantastic multi-use, community and events space right in the heart of the city. This grant will not only help refurbish the building’s exterior and return it to its former architectural glory but will also repurpose the inside so its operators can make it do more for the people of Hull.”
