Nurturing the names behind the numbers, Yorkshire accountancy firm, Smailes Goldie Group, is returning to the apprenticeship stage with its annual Recruitment Open Evening.

The event, set to take place on 12 February 2024, comes at the end of National Apprenticeship Week and reaffirms an ongoing commitment to provide opportunities to passionate, talented individuals.

Held at the firm’s Princess Street offices in Hull, the Recruitment Evening will provide graduates and college leavers with an insight into the life of a trainee accountant, routes into the sector and relevant qualifications.

Attendees will also be encouraged to apply for the firm’s highly successful training programme, which last year saw the firm recruit 16 trainees due to the firm’s continued growth and success.

Smailes Goldie Group celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2024, with team members taking the opportunity to look back at the career progression afforded to them by the firm’s innovative approach to trainees.

With 91 per cent of Partners being promoted internally and many beginning as trainees with the firm, it comes as no surprise that Smailes Goldie Group is repeatedly popular among apprentices in the region.

It also currently ranks 18th out of the Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers in 2023 – an achievement which recognises the diversity, success and innovation of apprenticeship employers.

Seeking to continue this trend and build on its reputation as an employer, the firm offers a number of additional benefits to its trainees, including full study support, social events and opportunities for secondment to other departments.

HR Manager at Smailes Goldie Group, Donna Brasier, said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome even more talented individuals into our team.

“With many of our senior staff beginning their careers with us as trainees, we’re keen to open up those opportunities to school and college leavers and graduates.

“There is more than one way into accountancy. It’s not all about grades or a university education – we look for people who can communicate, who are enthusiastic about taking initiative and who are willing to learn.

“We would urge anyone interested in a career in accounting to come along to the event and find out how an apprenticeship could be for you.”
