Our Made Great In Grimsby industry insight will bring the town’s unique seafood story to life. You will hear from Simon Dwyer, CEO, Seafox Management Consultants Ltd and his expert team about the history, culture, people, innovation, sustainability and talent behind the world's largest seafood processing areas at the heart of Grimsby

On the 26th September 2023, a delegation of Bondholders headed to Grimsby for an Industry Insight hosted by Made Great in Grimsby. Thank you to Simon Dwyer and Julie Waites for providing this unique opportunity to see inside two of Grimsby's fish processing businesses and to learn more about the fish industry in the region.

The visit started with a presentation from Simon Dwyer about Made Great in Grimsby and the region's fish industry. Did you know that one-third of UK seafood originates in Grimsby?

There is more information on the Made Great in Grimsby website.

The first stop on the tour was Pelagia, a producer of pelagic fish products. Pelagia use fish industry byproducts to make ingredients for products such as animal feed and fish oil. We were shown their highly efficient processing plant in action, and learned more about their challenges and achievements.

Our nest stop was Alfred Enderby Traditional Fish Smokers, appropriately owned by Mr and Mrs Salmon, where we learned more about their 100+ year old smoking house and production techniques. This really is artisan food production, steeped in years of traditional techniques and values. Their fish is sold to both wholesalers and fish retailers and more recently, they've developed a D2C market, which now accounts for around 50% of their trade.

The networking lunch was hosted by ABP and provided by The Mill House Covenham.

It was a truly amazing visit with real insight into the fish industry and the great work that Made Great in Grimsby is doing.
