Quickline brings full fibre broadband to rural communities across West Yorkshire under government’s Project Gigabit

Quickline’s fast and reliable full-fibre broadband is now live and bringing high-speed connectivity to rural communities across West Yorkshire, thanks to the government’s Project Gigabit.
Homes and businesses in villages like Streethouse and New Sharlston, near Wakefield, and Emley and Upper Cumberworth, near Huddersfield, now have access to gigabit-capable broadband.
So far around 600 premises in these areas can now get connected through Project Gigabit funding and another 1,100 premises have gained access through Quickline’s commercial build.
Further connectivity across these rural communities is planned in the coming weeks and months.
The rollout is delivering high-speed broadband to communities that were previously underserved. The communities are part of the government’s Project Gigabit with these locations included in the contract covering West Yorkshire and the York Area, awarded to Quickline in February this year.
Project Gigabit is a government-funded programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast gigabit-capable broadband. It targets homes and businesses that are not included in broadband suppliers’ commercial plans, reaching parts of the UK that might otherwise miss out on upgrades to next-generation speeds.
More than 28,000 hard-to-reach rural homes and businesses in the West Yorkshire and York area will ultimately benefit from the government’s UK-wide programme. Quickline is also investing further to extend its full fibre network to an additional 58,000 premises across the region.
Julian Chalk, Head of Network Engagement and Enablement at Quickline, said: “We’re proud to be delivering gigabit capable broadband to rural communities in West Yorkshire as part of the government’s Project Gigabit programme. Our goal is to make an impact quickly, connect these areas as soon as possible and make a meaningful impact to those living and working there.
“Reliable broadband is essential and we’re committed to helping our customers to thrive in the digital world.”
Minister for Telecoms Sir Chris Bryant said: “I’m delighted to see the first homes and businesses across West Yorkshire getting access to faster, more reliable broadband, thanks to the Government's Project Gigabit.
“As our rollout of next-generation connectivity picks up pace, hard-to-reach communities across Yorkshire will or should now start to feel the benefits of lightning-fast broadband, supporting our mission to kickstart the economy and break down barriers to opportunity.”
Homes and businesses can book their installation now to experience Quickline’s improved connectivity and start benefiting from lightning-fast broadband.
