FREE public sector careers event taking place in Goole next week
12 August 2024
The Goole Town Deal-funded Opportunity Goole team is hosting the latest in a series of FREE sector-specific careers events next week and, this time, the focus is on jobs in the public sector.
Taking place at Goole Library on Wednesday 21 August between 11am and 2pm, the event is an opportunity to find out more about jobs in local government, the NHS, the Army, with the police and with the fire service.
Humberside Fire & Rescue Service, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Safer Roads Humber and Humberside Police are just some of the local public sector organisations attending the informal drop-in event.
Phil Jones, Chair of the Goole Town Deal Board, said: “The Opportunity Goole team is hosting a series of sector-specific careers events over the coming months. A hospitality sector-themed event held in June proved very popular and attracted a fantastic turn out.
“The Public Sector Careers Event on 21 August has been arranged to allow local people of all ages, from those looking to take their first steps towards a career in the public sector to those looking to make a career change, to come along and find out more about some of the different types of roles available on offer.
“Representatives of a wide range of public sector organisations will be available to talk about these different roles and the routes into them, including what sort of skills people require. There will be a chance to have conversations with people working in these essential public services, as well as finding out about local training opportunities, grant funding and support to ensure you’re in the best possible position to take the next step in your career. Anyone who wants to come along and have an informal chat is very welcome.”
Carl Palmer, a Positive Action Officer with Humberside Police, said: “Diversity is so important to Humberside Police and Humberside Fire & Rescue. It’s important to understand how our communities feel and think, whether that be the Eastern European community, our LGBTQI+ community, our neuro diverse community or any other part of the communities.
“It’s also important to understand that we, at Humberside Police, don’t just recruit police officers. Humberside Fire and Rescue don’t just recruit fire fighters. We both have a whole range of different jobs, careers and opportunities available to everyone.”
One of eight projects funded by Goole Town Deal, Opportunity Goole provides easy access to information about local job opportunities, training provision, business support and more to anyone over the age of 16 years, regardless of whether they’re employed, unemployed or retired. The team’s role is to help local individuals gain the knowledge and skills that they need to secure employment, and ensure that employers can recruit local people with the skillset that they’re looking for.
