It's another week on the Humber. Here are some stories that you might have missed.

CRISPS!

If you are a crisp fan in the Humber then you won’t have missed this story about a local bar innovating through a crisp buffet night, because who doesn’t love a night out that is potato based? It must have caught the attention of more than just us as the story ended up on last week’s edition of Have I Got News for You. So, if you’re a fan of Frazzles, Quavers, or something more exotic (Nik Naks, maybe) then get yourself to Kicks Bar and Grill in Hull.

The Tour of Britain is coming to Beverley

The East Yorkshire market town of Beverley has been chosen as one of the finish venues for this year’s Tour of Britain cycle race. We all know that the Humber region is good for cycling and this is another great opportunity to see some of the world’s best road cyclists. Beverley is no stranger to cycling events, having been part of previous years’ Tour de Yorkshire. Beverley is a beautiful town and will no doubt do another great job of hosting athletes and spectators alike.

The Angel returns to Brigg

The gold Angel that lost its wing in 2019 has been restored to its former glory and is back on display atop The Angel community Hub in Brigg. The historic building reopened in 2020 as a community hub as part of North Lincolnshire Council’s £5m community investment programme. The iconic gold angel is now whole and back in place where she should be.

Wrecking Balls and supermodels

Want to own a bit of advertising nostalgia? Or maybe a replica yellow submarine?

The fake wrecking ball used by Naomi Campbell in a 1990s advertising campaign for the Vauxhall Corsa is just one of many interesting items that went under the hammer in Scunthorpe this week. We’d love to know who the new owners are.

Goodbye to Peter Martin

The region says a sad goodbye to the much-loved actor Peter Martin. Peter, star of shows such as The Royle Family and Emmerdale and movie Brassed Off, lived in Hessle and Barrow upon Humber for many years. He was known for his northern humour and quick wit.

If you haven’t seen Brassed Off then you really should get it on your watch list. Warning – contains swearing and a lot of northerness.
