Job summary
Tranby, East Yorkshire, seeks a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our school as a part-time teacher of PE and Games. This position offers an exciting opportunity for teaching sports enthusiasts who are eager to contribute to the development of young athletes. You will play a vital role in delivering engaging sports education, fostering skill development, and inspiring students to achieve their full potential. Tranby’s goal is to ensure and celebrate ‘sport for all’, and you will be a key figure in ensuring we constantly meet this expectation.

Key duties and responsibilities


Curriculum
• To teach PE in the Senior School
• Teach Games lessons for students in Key Stages 1 to 5 (ages 5 to 18)
• Sustain a passion for sport and PE as a subject, and in the teaching and learning of young people
• Employ a wide range of teaching strategies to ensure pupils make excellent progress across the curriculum and key stages
• To prepare lessons thoroughly and review the content, presentation and relevance of these in consultation with the Director of Sport
• To monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils’ learning in PE
• To follow school departmental policies for the assessing, recording and reporting of pupil achievement using these to set achievable targets for further improvement in the subject across the range of abilities
• To create and maintain a stimulating learning environment for the learning of PE and to have input into the development of PE teaching in the school
• To ensure levels of discipline conducive to learning
• To work as part of a team in the teaching organisation and administration of the department

Administration
• Ensuring that appropriate and accurate records are kept
• Assistance with all departmental records, pupil assessment schemes, examination entries. Making these records available to the Head Mistress, Senior Deputy Head, and others as appropriate
• Responsibility, along with other department members, for school facilities, equipment, and rooms, and for compliance with all Health and Safety regulation


Extra-Curricular
• Teach, lead and inspire young people; to be an excellent practitioner both inside and outside the classroom
• Assist with development of strong links with other schools both within United Learning and the local area
• Help with school trips and tours
• To look for opportunities to initiate and assist the school in its provision of extra-curricular activities including Saturday morning fixtures


Other requirements
• Consistently contribute to providing for a positive morale and community spirit in the school
• Meet responsibilities with regard to health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant legislation
• Confirm to professional and ethical requirements
• Any other appropriate duties as may be directed by the Head Mistress, Deputy Heads, or Head of Science
